About

I am a British artist exploring the transitional space between the past and the present, between loss and discovery, imagination and existence. My work lies within a quiet, contemplative, ethereal space and the absence of overbearing visual noise is an important compositional element in itself. I strive for lightness without superficiality and composition without mannerism.

I work within a predetermined format and to a previously established process but my painting is in a constant state of flux through experimentation with materials and approach. Painting is an expressive conduit, a means for me to absorb and distil what I feel and see around me. My influences derive from a diverse spectrum of primary and secondary sources, from ancient medieval manuscripts and Roman curse tablets, to a variety of forms found in nature.  All life makes its mark on the world  and we do not exist outside nature. I believe that Pollock was right when he said ‘I am Nature’. Nature should be experienced and felt, not simply observed and recorded.

I firmly believe that abstract art can have a profound effect on people, both on an emotional and, on occasions, a spiritual level. Painting is a visual diary of one’s existence. It is a constant. It is not my intention to confront, impose or instruct. The raison d’être of my work is to exist for the consideration and contemplation of others.
